If you have coniferous trees on your property, they are at risk for pitch canker disease. It comes from a fungus that first attacks the branch tips; you’ll see this when the needles wilt and turn brown. You may also see sores on the tree (cankers), which are another identifying symptom.
If your pine tree has pitch canker, you will also notice bark beetles. Taken together, these two problems can lead to pine tree death. The sooner you catch these problems, the better off you will be.

In California, the species of tree that gets pitch canker disease most often are the Bishop pine and the Monterey pine.
