Pitch Canker

If you have coniferous trees on your property, they are at risk for pitch canker disease. It comes from a fungus that first attacks the branch tips; you’ll see this when the needles wilt and turn brown. You may also see sores on the tree (cankers), which are another identifying symptom.

If your pine tree has pitch canker, you will also notice bark beetles. Taken together, these two problems can lead to pine tree death. If you notice either (or both) issues, contact us immediately so we can come out to provide a consultation and give you a list of choices. The sooner you catch these problems, the better off you will be.

This one of many situations in which tree care and pest control are connected. Treating both is vital. If you have a regular pest control program for your trees, that also manages fungus diseases as well in many cases.

In California, the species of tree that gets pitch canker disease most often are the Bishop pine and the Monterey pine.

If you are interested in having us come examine your conifer, give us a call or fill out the contact form on our site. We will respond to you that same day in most cases!
